Victoria 3 MakeUp Tutorial
In this tutorial I’ll show how to paint your own Make Up. The Picture Size is 4000 x 2719 pixels here. I assume you are versed with the basic functions, so that I don’t need to deal with more details. I did the tutorial with paintshop Pro 7, but you can also use Photoshop.
You can download this Make Up guide here. The green range is for eyeliner, pink for eyelid shade on the under eyelid, light blue for the upper eyelid and the large pink ranges for the blush.
Over this first layer I put the texture and inserted a new level.
We start with the eyeliner. Take the drawing tool with the following settings:
Set a line underneath the edge of eye with the point to point option.
If you are confident with the result, duplicate this level and reflect it horizontal. As you can see on the left side the mesh is not completely symetric. You have to shift the line somewhat to the right on this side, which also applies to the remaining make up. I use the selection tool for that.
After both lines are in correct position, you can use the retouch tool to soften the drawing of the eyeliners. My settings here: hardness 5 / cover strength 5.
It is also a popular texture effect to set eyelid shade under the eye. Insert a new layer, increase the strength of the drawing tools line to 10 points and draw a line using point to point as in the picture. Duplicate the layer, reflect it horizontal, and adapt the left side. It may look like this eyeliner now.
With the Gaussian Blur, radius: 10, you get this gentle eyelid shade effect, which unfortunately became somewhat pale now.
By duplicating the layer twice there you get a strong eyelid shade again. Fade out all layers except the three eyelid layers and connect them to one.
Time to have a look at this texture with Poser. You better watch the Make Up at every step you do in Poser and see whether it is in a correct position.
Possibly you like to change the color later. So it would be better to create a mask. Mark both sides with the magic wand. Make the selection smaller by 20 and set the feather to 15.
Your eyelid shade should have this strength now. Try different settings of the edge acuity to vary the strength. Create a mask now – masks > new > selection exclude. Now you can fill the mask with a new color.
Controll in Poser:
Not bad, but not that impressive too. Next step is the eyelid shade. You can now work with the airbrush tool or the freehand tool. If you like to have halfway sharp edges like this, you may use the freehand tool. Set a selection for the eyelid shade using point to point.
After that fill it with a color. The result should look like this.
If you are confident with the result copy the layer, reflect it horizontal and connect both layers. Use the soften tool (with settings hardness 20/cover strength 20) to reform the edges.
As a check:
As you can see, the left side does not sit symmetrically and the eyelid shade extends too far into the eyelid fold. Go back and shift it from the left to the right side. Clean the top margine with the eraser tool.
You will get a softer effect by using the Gaussian Blur.
Use the airbursh for the second eyelid shade, because we need no clean edges here. Insert a new layer and distribute your color generously over the first eyelid shade. Settings for the airbrush: Size 10/hardness 40/cover strength 100.
Use the Gaussian Blur again, radius: 20
Clean the lower edge with the freehand tool.
Since the eyelid fold of the original texture gleams still through, spray some color over the fold and tight the edge some with the soften tool.
Check in Poser.
Now duplicate, reflect horizontal and connect the layer again.
It already looks good, but still there is something missing. How about eyelid shade in the corners? Well then... bring some a darker color on a new layer in the eyelid with the airbrush, as on my picture.
And after that the Gaussian Blur with a radius of 15.
If the test in Poser is passed,
duplicate, reflect horizontal, connect and test it again.
Good! Soon we got it done. In the end we do another beautiful blush for rosy cheeks. Insert a new layer and spray the blush up pear-shaped with the airbrush tool (size 140, hardness 50).
Now you can lean back, because the Gaussian Blur with a radius of 50 will take some time.
And again a check in Poser.
Confident? Duplicate, reflect horizontal and connect.
Check in Poser.
Congratulations, you succeeded working with the tutorial. Actually we are done with it. I’ll show you two more hints to change and/or complete your Make Up.
First: The very popular glitter look.
Select the layer with the upper eyelid shade, add a noise with the strength of 30. Unfortunately Paintshop inserts a multicolored picture intoxication, therefore we have to recolor everything to grey for one time. Afterwards again colorize with this settings: color 179/saturation 174 or try other settings for the color. After all that use the Gaussian Blur with a radius of 1.
Now the eyelid shade should look like this. And now we increase the image definition with "sharpen more" four times, which results a beautiful glitter look.
Which looks this way in Poser.
In the end we manipulate the lip color. For this pull tight accurately the lip outlines with the freehand tool and set the color on grey.
Now you can colorize the lips again (colour: 237/saturation 126) or
create a new layer and fill the selection with a color
and set the layer mode to color.
Well now we are done! Your texture should now look like this one (maybe you try some different cover force settings):
And now the result in Poser:
I hope you enjoyed working with this tutorial and learned something from it. With the time you will improve much and maybe create new own techniques for lots of other Make Up’s.
Yours Wenke
